Foodie Press Bites from Our New York City Launch

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

Our recent launch in NYC – an international restaurant and foodie capital – went splendid! Here’s a round-up of our favorite press mentions from the launch.

Daily Candy
We were thrilled to be included in Daily Candy’s Spring 2011 New York City Wedding Guide. Their city guides and handpicked vendors rock.

New York Daily News
In her article on “unusual” wedding registries, Meena Hartenstein singled us out for couples going the “experience registry route”, adding that she likes this route because it “feels really personal.” Hartenstein writes the Rules of Engagement blog for the New York Daily News and is a bride-to-be herself. Congrats Meena!

Always A Blogsmaid
Always A Blogsmaid is a staple in the wedding community, and so we were very happy to be profiled by them. As foodies with tons of food-obsessed NYC clients, their excitement about our NYC launch was much appreciated. We love this quote from their post: “The Foodie Registry accomplishes two things; it enables your friends and family to gift you with meals and drinks at some of the city’s better restaurants AND it ensures that you two newlyweds can get out of the house instead of sitting home and writing thank you cards while watching Dancing With The Stars.” So true!

Eater
As big fans of Eater, we were thrilled to get a mention on their website. Short, sweet and to the point – instead of Toasters and Tumblers, try L’Artusi or ‘21’ Club! Read it here.

4 The Love of Feasting
Foodie AND newlywed Kate, gave us a nod with her call to “all future foodie brides.” Having found out about Foodie Registry too late for her own wedding, she makes a great point that it’s great for another big milestone as well – “registering for all your baby gear.” The only people who need date nights more than newlyweds, are new parents. Thanks Kate!

Obsessed
We were happy that Sarah found us obsession-worthy. She definitely gets it, that is, the concept behind Foodie Registry. In her own words: “Who wants a steak knife when you could give the gift of a succulent steak, fine-dining experience and a memory of a lifetime?” We couldn’t agree more.

Foodie Press Bites and a successful San Francisco Launch

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

With our recent launch in the San Francisco Bay area last week, came a welcome wave of shout outs and positive press.  Here we share some of our favorite Foodie Registry Press Bites.

The Kitchn

We love the Kitchn for its inspiring ideas and great advice to foodie home-makers (and homey food-makers).  They really seemed to get the concept behind Foodie Registry, saying “Foodie Registry seems more tactful than giving cash and a way to give an experience rather than an item. I could see this working for couples who… love dining out (who doesn’t?).” Indeed, many guests find giving the bride and groom a date night to a nice restaurant a much more satisfying gift-giving experience than, say, a vacuum cleaner.  And as the Kitchn points out, it feels more meaningful than cash or checks.  Read the full post here.

The Village Voice

The quintessential NYC weekly, The Village Voice threw a spotlight on us this week in their food column, calling Foodie Registry “a fast-growing website… making it possible for American couples to gain edible pay-off for their decision to wed.”  Edible pay-off -  what a great way to put it!  Read more of their witty summary here.

Yumsugar

We didn’t realize there was a foodie branch to the popular entertainment news website PopSugar, but we were glad to find out about it.  Yumsugar was one of the first blogs to profile us after our SF launch.  Thanks Yumsugar!

Epicurious

We were thrilled to be given a nod by the ultimate in foodie blogs – none other than Epicurious!  They asked a bunch of new moms what their favorite baby shower gift was, and unsurprisingly, most of them answered “meals.”  They go on to talk about the important part that food plays in life’s many celebrations, and we couldn’t agree more.  Eating great food with great company is truly one of the best ways to celebrate.  Read more of their insightful post here.

Slashfood

Jason Best of AOL’s popular food blog Slashfood did a great and very humorous piece on us, where he posed the question that Foodie Registry was created to answer:  “But you’ve both already lived on your own for years; you don’t need another blender-you have two. So what do you do?”  In Best’s worst-case scenario, “You end up registering for something that somehow seems reasonable at the time but will forever mock you with its utter absurdity every time you spy it gathering dust on some impossibly high cabinet shelf…”  Best case scenario (no pun intended)?  You register for date nights at amazing restaurants, which keep the romance alive and never expire!  Best also posed the question of whether Foodie Registry’s success will spell the end of electric waffle cone makers.  We’ll let Best explain that one to you.

Lifehacker

Last but certainly not least, a website we love called Lifehacker gave us a nod, making a point of simplicity as they often do,  that “These days, some couples getting married have lived together long enough to acquire most of what they want.”  This simple but true point is what drove Foodie Registry into existence.  Modern couples have modern needs, and modern wedding registries should meet them.  Read it in full at Lifehacker.
